Our Approach
How we rate and rank
We like good bourbon and honest reviews.
But here’s the fine print:
Our mission is to bring clarity and authenticity to bourbon appreciation through rigorous, transparent, and accessible reviews and rating. We believe that meaningful bourbon reviews require an appreciation for the spirit’s character, something all of our reviewers have in spades.
Our reviewers conduct multiple blind tastings of each bourbon, evaluating key attributes. And to maintain our independence, we always make clear where a bottle has been provided if not through an available retailer. We also are transparent about where our funding comes from, and will not and will never disguise website advertising. Our reviewers also disclose any industry relationships they may have and never have them review a product where a conflict exists.
While we acknowledge that taste is inherently subjective, we strive to provide detailed tasting notes and consistent scoring benchmarks that help readers make informed decisions, whether they’re looking for an everyday sipper or a special occasion bourbon.

Our experts:
Marcus W. discovered his love for bourbon while restoring vintage furniture in his grandfather’s Kentucky barn. For the past 12 years, he’s combined his woodworking knowledge with his passion for spirits, often exploring how different barrel characteristics influence the final pour. Marcus writes from his home in Charleston, South Carolina, where he lives with his wife, their golden retriever Duke, and an ever-growing collection of hand-built whiskey cabinets.
Anthony L. began his bourbon journey while serving in the Coast Guard, collecting bottles from ports across America. After retiring in 2009, he turned his hobby into a second career, reviewing spirits. Based in Virginia Beach, Anthony spends his time with his wife and German Shepherd.
Sam P. found his way to bourbon through his background as a craft beer brewer in Colorado. What started as research into barrel-aging techniques in 2010 quickly evolved into a deep appreciation for America’s native spirit. He brings this hands-on production knowledge to his reviews, writing from his mountain home in Boulder where he lives with his wife and two kids.
